Overview

As a member of Nursing Leadership team, assumes the lead role in development, implementation, delivery, and evaluation of employee training and the development of programs primarily for clinical nursing staff.  Collaborates with nurse leaders and clinical staff to advance nursing competency and help ensure quality bedside care.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a mentor and role model for competent clinical care
  • Maintains and enhances clinical skills, including knowledge of critical care concepts
  • Maintains flexibility with regard to hours, in order to provide support to all clinical staff
  • Promotes critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Designs and implements orientation programs for all clinical areas. Reviews all skilled competencies for clinical areas and facilitates revision.  Works with managers and directors to plan and conduct skill competency labs
  • Utilizes adult learning theory and concepts, and demonstrates outcome-based education
  • Serves as a professional resource in areas of specialty and provides advice and guidance necessary to resolve complex patient care problems
  • Serves as a member of Nursing and Hospital Quality Committees, as well as other relevant committees, such as Education Oversight Committee
  • Assesses education needs of staff on a daily basis. Conducts annual review of staff education through surveys, observations, and interviews
  • Collaborates with clinical leaders to provide evidence-based formal courses to meet the competency needs of the staff
  • Demonstrates and teaches nursing process specific to clinical areas
  • Incorporates quality concepts into nursing practice
  • Researches and develops stands of practice for patient population as appropriate
  • Develops mentoring and preceptor programs, and serves as mentor for preceptors
  • Serves on nursing leaders hospital management committees
  • Is a resource to clinical staff on use of new equipment, and participates in decisions related to equipment purchases
  • Is a facilitator for difficult or complex nursing procedures
  • Implements competency-based programs for all clinical areas in partnership with managers and directors. Reviews all skilled competencies for clinical areas and facilitates revisions.  Works with managers and directors to plan and conduct skill competency labs
  • Works with employees and management to identify and address learning (competency, education, skills) needs; assesses and documents clinical and customer service skills as part of new employee orientation process

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Nursing required.  Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Minimum 5 years clinical experience.  Teaching experience
  • Current Vermont licensure in good standing with no restrictions or stipulations.
  • Certification in specialty
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, proficient computer skills, Internet Skills
  • Teaching and/ or supervisory experience strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of clinical operations including policies, procedures, processes and system resources
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, communication and clinical skills
  • Facilitator, trainer and computer skills
  • Credibility as a positive role model and mentor to all staff
