  • Overview

    Performs a wide variety of duties to assist nursing staff in the care of the surgical patient. Maintains a safe and clean environment for the patient at all times under the direction of qualified operating room personnel. 


    • Exhibits good communication and listening skills.
    • Demonstrates courteous, polite, friendly and cooperative behavior towards others.
    • Demonstrates the ability to work in a collegial and positive team atmosphere.
    • Follows established guidelines for cleaning and housekeeping of the peri-operative unit.
    • Handles chemicals and solutions per departmental/MSDS standards.Consistently uses proper personal protective equipment.
    • Knows how to operate applicable equipment and demonstrates an awareness and accountability of own actions.
    • Maintain established OR Rooms and Anesthesia stock par levels. Assist Perioperative Material Management personnel with stocking unit storerooms.
    • Maintains a safe environment through appropriate placement of equipment supplies and reporting all broken malfunctions of equipment
    • Observes and follows Isolation Techniques in accordance with Infection Control Policy.
    • Stocks blanket warmer and linen cabinet in each OR suite and replenishes supplies such as paper towels, toilet tissue, soap, etc, and bring supplies and equipment to area as needed.
    • Uses time constructively.Appropriately prioritizes tasks.
    • Adheres to aseptic principles when assisting with patient prep and all procedures.
    • Adheres to standard precautions in performing daily tasks.
    • Cleans all assigned areas and storage cabinets using the cleaning procedure as taught in orientation to the perioperative area.
    • Cleans and sanitizes the OR suits after blood and body fluid spills, using proper techniques per Infection Control Policy and Procedures. Cleans equipment used for proper storage after use.
    • Demonstrates an ability to perform in a crisis and emergency situation when time is essential
    • Demonstrates respect for the dignity and confidentiality of the patient.


    Education Requirements

    HS diploma


    Experience Requirements

    Prior Housekeeping Experience preferred.

    Experience Desired

    OR experience, 2-5 years housekeeping experience


    Skill Requirements

    Excellent organizational and communication skills, able to prioritize tasks and projects and complete in a timely manner. Maintain professional appearance and confidentiality. Ability to make quick decisions under pressure,. Ability to interact with variety of people in a positive and team-centric fashion.
