Under the direction of licensed nursing personnel, the Patient Care Assistant (PCA) primary functions are to assist in the basic care of patients requiring assistance with activities of daily living, mobility, and safety. Including acting as a patient sitter to provide direct, continuous observation of patients requiring same. She/he intervenes as necessary to prevent physical harm to patients who might be at high risk to injure themselves or others due to confusion, delirium, self-destructive behavior, or a high likelihood of falling. Works with others in the health care team to assure prompt intervention to maintain patient safety. Assists in the performance of procedures for the patient population served in a manner that is consistent with established policies and procedures. There is a potential opportunity for this to progress to a Nursing Assistant Training Program.

-Assisting in carrying out patient plan of care, providing for patient safety, comfort, and companionship as directed by the Registered Nurse. Maintain privacy, safety, dignity and confidentiality
-Assuring a safe environment, notifying Registered Nurse of concerns
-Assisting with basic ADL'S at the direction of an RN, OT, PT
