Overview

Copley Hospital's Registered Nurse Residency Program (RNRP) is a 6- month bridge program that allows an RN with less than one year of experience to work directly with experienced nurses and transition into professional hospital nursing positions. The RN will be working directly with a preceptor to become proficient in the basic skills to be an RN. In addition to working with a preceptor, the RN will work with the Education Department in a series of classes, hands on skills sessions, and simulation experiences that will boost their knowledge base and skill set. This program is set to start mid-July.

As part of the program, a capstone project is required. The quality improvement project is chosen by the RNRP staff in collaboration with their unit leadership. The project must be related to the nursing profession, clinical practice or a change in clinical practice and must be evidence-based.

Responsibilities

In addition, the New Nurse Residency Program provides the structure, resources, and processes to increase nursing retention rates, with the use of a variety of learning methods to:

  • Increase confidence in practice
  • Develop appropriate decision-making skills

  • Decrease in burnout
